Two Young Women Charged with Extortion by Threatening to Publish Defamatory Information
The investigation into a case of extortion committed by two young women has concluded at the Armavir regional investigation department of the RA Investigative Committee, according to the information and public relations department of the RA Investigative Committee.
According to the factual data obtained during the investigation, the 21 and 26-year-old women got acquainted with a 34-year-old resident of Yerevan in August 2019 and met several times until November. Subsequently, they agreed to extort money from him by threatening to publish defamatory information about him, demanding and receiving significant sums, totaling approximately 1,000,000 AMD, until December 27, 2019.
On January 10, 2020, during the extortion of another sum of 50,000 AMD using the same threat, the 26-year-old woman was apprehended by police officers on Tevosyan Street in Yerevan, where the extorted money was found during a personal search.
Based on the sufficient evidence gathered, the young women have been charged under the second part of Article 182 (extortion) of the RA Criminal Code.
The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the court with an indictment.
