David Sanasaryan Submits Request to Prime Minister for Resignation from Head of NSS
David Sanasaryan has made a post on his Facebook page, announcing that he has submitted a request to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to be relieved of his position as the head of the National Security Service (NSS).
“Dear compatriots, it has been about two years since I was removed from my position as the head of NSS due to an illegal criminal case, and I have been participating in a judicial process that is essentially unrelated to me as an accused. This prevented me from fulfilling my commitment to cleanse the country of corruption. I have long made a difficult decision for myself, but I have considered the dangers stemming from the post-war shocks and postponed it to avoid increasing the likelihood of representatives of the previous regime returning. Regardless of the wrongs done to me, I have not taken any steps that would lead to the failure of the government formed as a result of the revolution and elected by the people. Moreover, I have always supported the legitimate authorities in crisis situations.
However, for incomprehensible reasons, I have been unable to meet with the Prime Minister during this time and present my views and disagreements on various issues, which I have attempted even immediately after the ceasefire. Therefore, today I have submitted a request to Prime Minister Pashinyan to relieve me of my position as the head of the National Security Service.
Dear compatriots, you are primarily faced with two artificial choices in overcoming the management and political crises created after the war: to support the representatives of the previous regime who are conducting protests on the streets (most of whom we have collectively rejected), or the current government, which has not been able to fulfill most of the promises made during the revolution and elections for various reasons. The majority of you, despite being dissatisfied with the current authorities, have not participated in the street struggles organized by the former ones, or support the current government only to prevent increasing the chances of a comeback by the previous regime. This kind of political status quo is fraught with threats to the security of the state and represents a real obstacle to development.
Therefore, I declare that together with like-minded friends, we are initiating a new political process and will soon present our formulas for overcoming the internal political crisis and for the development and strengthening of Armenia. I have served, I am serving, and I will serve the Republic of Armenia,” Sanasaryan wrote.
