The Prosecutor's Office did not appeal the decision of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction regarding the non-arrest of Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan. This was stated by Aravik Khachatryan, head of the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor's Office, in response to a question from Hetq.
Arushanyan's lawyer, Armen Melkonyan, told us that a bail of 2 million drams has been set for Arushanyan.
It is noteworthy that the request to arrest Arush Arushanyan was examined and rejected by Judge Robert Papoyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.
Arushanyan was arrested in Syunik on suspicion of organizing a gathering in violation of the established procedure and was then transferred to the Investigative Committee, where he has been charged under several articles.
In particular, he is currently accused of abuse of official powers, organizing illegal business activities, violating the rules for the preservation and use of minerals, self-justice, causing medium bodily harm intentionally, and attempting to organize and hold a gathering in violation of established procedure.
He claims that what has happened to him is political persecution. Several mayors from Syunik region, including Arush Arushanyan, are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
