Trump Declares State of Emergency in Washington
The current President of the United States, Donald Trump, has declared a state of emergency in Washington, D.C., to ensure the security of the inauguration ceremony of Democrat Joe Biden scheduled for January 20, according to a statement released by the White House, as reported by Politico.
Previously, the authorities in the U.S. capital had imposed a state of emergency on their own initiative and had requested Trump to do the same to be able to receive federal assistance for security if necessary.
The White House statement specifically notes that “Trump has declared a state of emergency in the District of Columbia and ordered federal assistance to ensure the security of the 59th inauguration ceremony.”
As clarified by Trump’s administration, the decision allows the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to “coordinate all efforts to respond to potential disasters.”
Earlier, ABC News journalist Aaron Katersky reported, citing an internal document from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, that armed protests are planned in all 50 states and near the Capitol this week. According to him, the protests in the capital are set to take place before Biden’s inauguration ceremony on January 20.
It is worth reminding that on January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, where Congress convened to certify Democrat Joe Biden's victory in the presidential elections. Four people died during the protests, and dozens of individuals were arrested. After Congress certified Biden's victory, Trump promised to facilitate an orderly transfer of power.
