Samvel Heroically Fell Victim on the 7th Day of the War
18-year-old Samvel Khachatryan was conscripted into the army on July 28 and was serving in the village of Horatagh in the Martakert region. Artilleryman Samvel heroically perished from a missile explosion on the very 7th day of the war.
Samvel's sister, Julieta Khachatryan, told LURER.com in an interview that she spoke with her brother twice during the war, recalling that the last call was just a day before his death. It seemed as though Samvel felt that it would be his final conversation. 'On October 2, he called, we talked for a long time. He said he was safe, everything was fine, and not to worry. We didn't even know he was an artilleryman and that he was in the positions,' she said.
Julieta shared that every time they spoke, she told her brother how much she loved him and remembered that a letter she sent to Samvel arrived with his belongings.
Samvel was from the village of Benjamin in the Shirak region and was studying at the Olympic Reserve State Sports College in Gyumri, where he was an athlete involved in track and field. He had decided to enroll in Yerevan State Pedagogical University after being discharged from the army.
Those who knew Samvel describe him as incredibly kind and honest. Like many of our other heroes, Samvel had numerous dreams and goals that, unfortunately, remained unfulfilled.
