One Year After Georgi Kutoyan's Suicide: What the Investigative Committee Has Discovered

The newspaper "Zhoghourd" reports: On January 17, 2020, Georgi Kutoyan, the former director of the National Security Service, committed suicide in his own apartment located in the Kanakerr-Zeytun administrative district, a news that shocked the entire republic. With the upcoming one-year anniversary of the former director's death, the most important question remains unanswered: why did he take such an extreme step?

Georgi Kutoyan was found dead in his apartment with a gunshot wound to the head. "Zhoghourd" has learned that during the one-year investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kutoyan's death, over ten expert examinations were appointed, and more than 100 witnesses were interrogated in the criminal case. Analyzes of incoming and outgoing phone calls were also requested.

It should be noted that throughout the year, the investigative body only examined the suicide version. Now, according to our information, the Investigative Committee of Armenia has decided to suspend the investigation into the criminal case.

We sought to clarify this information with the Investigative Committee of Armenia. In response, the head of the Media Relations Department of the Investigative Committee, Rima Yeganyan, stated: "The preliminary investigation into the criminal case concerning the death of the former director of the NSS, Georgi Kutoyan, has been suspended in accordance with Article 31, Part 1, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code, namely, the person who should be involved in the case as a defendant is unknown." In other words, the death of the former NSS director remains a mystery.
