Possible Cause of Boeing Crash Reported in Indonesia

The Boeing 737-500 passenger aircraft belonging to Indonesian Sriwijaya Air may have crashed due to water impact, reports the Straits Times, citing Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee.

“There is still no final conclusion, but preliminary data indicates that the aircraft crashed due to water impact,” said Nurcahyo Utomo, head of the committee's aviation safety investigations division.

He added that if the aircraft had crashed in the air, the debris would have been spread over a much larger area.

Recall that the aircraft belonging to Indonesian Sriwijaya Air crashed yesterday while on a flight from Jakarta to Pontianak, falling into the Java Sea. Preliminary reports indicate that there were 65 people on board, including 53 passengers, 10 of whom were children, and 12 crew members.
