Record Snowfall in Madrid: Life in Spain's Capital Comes to a Standstill

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency has issued a warning in many provinces of the country, with some areas declared at a red level of weather danger. The strongest snowfall in recent years, which began in Madrid yesterday and has yet to cease, has nearly paralyzed life in Spain's capital.

Madrid has been blanketed by the heavy snowfalls brought by Storm Filomena. Local media have already labeled it the "record snowfall of the century." This is reported by Reuters.

Madrid's airport is at a standstill, with 300 flights canceled today at the Madrid-Barajas International Airport. The height of the snow cover in Madrid has already exceeded 20-30 cm.

Due to the heavy snowfall, rail traffic has been disrupted in several directions, and buses and cars are not operating in Madrid.

The level of natural disaster risk due to snowfall in Spain's capital has reached the maximum level for the first time since 2007. The Spanish meteorological service has stated that this will be the largest snowfall in the region since the beginning of the 21st century.
