Henrikh Mkhitaryan Remembers Arkadi Andreasyan: A Legacy of Football Generations

With great sorrow, I learned about the passing of the legendary Armenian footballer Arkadi Andreasyan, wrote Henrikh Mkhitaryan, captain of the Armenian national team, on his Facebook page.

“Arkadi Andreasyan made an invaluable contribution to the development and international recognition of Armenian football; many generations of footballers were raised with his example, including my father. I extend my condolences to the family, relatives, friends of Arkadi Andreasyan, and the entire football community, and I share in their grief,” noted Mkhitaryan.

It is worth mentioning that Arkadi Andreasyan, one of the best representatives of Armenian football of all time, passed away at the age of 73. He was a legendary midfielder for Ararat-73.

Andreasyan was not only one of the brightest figures in Armenian football but also one of the best midfielders in the Soviet Union during his time. He was a master of international class sports and an honored figure in the physical culture and sports of Armenia. He played 242 matches for Yerevan’s Ararat, scoring 62 goals. Andreasyan was the champion of the Soviet Union in 1973, a two-time cup winner in 1973 and 1975, and won a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympic Games. He was named among the top 33 footballers of the Soviet Union four times (1971, 1973, 1974, 1975).
