Airport Under Construction in Stepanakert with Participation of Russian Peacekeepers

Construction work on the airport in Stepanakert, with the participation of Russian peacekeepers, is ongoing without interruption; however, it is still difficult to specify an exact timeline for the opening of air communication. This was stated to RIA Novosti by Stepanakert Mayor Davit Sargsyan.

“As far as I know, Russia is delivering cargo to Yerevan, from where it is transported here to Stepanakert by vehicle. An airport is currently being built with the participation of peacekeeping forces. This is being done so that Russian aircraft can arrive directly in Karabakh,” Sargsyan reported.

He found it difficult to specify the exact timeline for the opening of the Stepanakert airport but assured that the work is proceeding without pause. “I cannot say for sure, but the work is going on day and night,” the mayor of Stepanakert said.

When asked how else Russia could assist in the post-war reconstruction of Artsakh, Sargsyan responded, “We only need peace. Peace and status. Right now, people know that everything will be fine, but still, they are concerned about the status of the region.”
