An Azerbaijani Citizen Illegally Crosses the Border in Berdavan Village, Noticed by Bakery Workers
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia reported today that an Azerbaijani citizen illegally crossed the border in Berdavan village of Tavush province yesterday and has since been detained.
In a conversation with Aravot.am, Berdavan community leader Smbat Mughdusyan stated that the man was spotted by bakery workers in the early morning hours, around 3-4 AM. According to the community leader, the man was dressed in civilian clothes, and when locals realized he was not from the area, they alerted the law enforcement authorities.
“After the locals called, the law enforcement quickly responded and detained the border violator. He did not do anything unusual, as there has been a thick fog in the area for the past three days, and visibility is very low; he likely got confused and accidentally crossed the border. Our people even offered him coffee and did not show any ill treatment,” noted the community leader.
Smbat Mughdusyan mentioned that such incidents had not occurred in the region for a long time, but there is no tension among the villagers, and everyone remains calm. He added that it is still unknown whether the citizen crossed from the Georgian or Azerbaijani side: “There haven't been similar cases here for a long time, but it is natural that such incidents may occur in border villages.”
