Petition Submitted to the Vatican Secretary of State Regarding the Protection of Artsakh's Cultural Heritage

The official Facebook page of the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts informs that a petition has been submitted to the Vatican Secretary of State, signed by around 150 representatives and scholars from various scientific institutions around the world, regarding the protection of Artsakh's cultural heritage.

In the petition, the scholars noted that alongside the humanitarian disaster occurring in Artsakh, the rich cultural heritage created in the region is also in danger. This heritage consists of hundreds of early Christian, medieval, and modern churches, monasteries, and various monuments.

The scholars presented evidence that, not long ago, under the government of Azerbaijan, there was a systematic destruction of the Armenian artistic and architectural heritage in the territories under its control.

The scholars expressed hope that through the esteemed mediation of the Pope of Rome, it would be possible to coordinate with relevant international organizations to save the heritage located in historical Armenia, which serves as a testament to faith and holds global significance.
