Militants Execute TV Host in Eastern Afghanistan

Militants have shot dead a television presenter in eastern Afghanistan, reports AP. The attackers opened fire on Malala Maiwand's vehicle as she was leaving her home in Nangarhar province, according to AP.

In addition to her role as a radio and TV host, Maiwand was also involved in advocating for the rights of Afghan women and children.

No one has claimed responsibility for the murder, but the Islamic State branch, which is based in eastern Afghanistan, has taken credit for most recent attacks against civilians in the country. The Taliban are also active in the area.
