Discussion on Building 7,000 to 8,000 Housing Units in Artsakh with Russian Support
Approximately 40,000 Artsakh residents who lost their homes will require 8,000 to 10,000 new housing units. In an interview with Armenpress, the Minister of Labor, Social Affairs, and Housing of Artsakh, Mane Tandilyan, stated that the issue of constructing 7,000 to 8,000 apartments with the support of the Russian side is already under discussion.
"Ensuring housing for displaced Artsakh residents is among our priorities. For now, we are trying to find temporary solutions by accommodating them in hotels in Stepanakert, dormitories, and so on. Additionally, the possibility of providing compensation to host families in Armenia and Artsakh is also being considered. Accordingly, it is planned that host families in Armenia will receive a compensation of 30,000 drams per citizen, while in Artsakh, the compensation will amount to 45,000 drams," explained the minister.
According to her, it is also a priority to address the challenges posed by the winter season. "During this period, displaced Artsakh residents are continuously provided with warm clothing and bedding as needed. It is anticipated that the government will reimburse utility payments. Some limitations regarding the amount of compensation, particularly for electricity, are necessary only to ease the overload on the power grids as much as possible," Mane Tandilyan said.
Addressing other social assistance programs, the minister informed that support of 250,000 drams is anticipated for all Artsakh residents whose homes were damaged as a result of the war. "Currently, support programs of 68,000 and 15,000 drams are underway. The process of accepting and verifying applications for compensation of 300,000 drams for Artsakh residents displaced from areas now under Azerbaijani control has also started. The distribution of these funds is expected to occur, at the latest, by the end of December following the approval of applications. Apart from submitting applications to the relevant department of the ministry, it is also possible to fill them out online, as well as at service points of Artsakh Telecom," Mane Tandilyan emphasized, noting that there will be no Artsakh resident who does not receive the assistance entitled to them by law.
