The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) continues to record positive results in privately protected areas. At the research and monitoring center of the 'ArAves' NGO, the representatives of Armenia's rich avifauna—specifically, the unique bearded vulture—continue to thrive within the territory of the Caucasus Biodiversity Reserve (CWR).

Thanks to the expertise of forest ranger Khoren Ghazaryan, stunning footage of the vulture has been captured. A camera trap set by him recorded the red-headed bird from a remarkably close distance, showcasing its full beauty. It is worth noting that while there may be many more picturesque and colorful bird species, understanding the beauty of vultures requires a comprehension of their role and significance in the wild.

Armenia's unique avifauna remains under the continuous monitoring of the 'ArAves' NGO (Ar=Armenia, Aves=Birds) and the rangers at the Caucasus Biodiversity Reserve. 'ArAves' is actively engaged in studying Armenia's rich birdlife, placing particular emphasis on the stable dynamics of vulture populations. The recorded species is listed in the Red Book of Animals of the Republic of Armenia and is classified as rare and endangered. It is important to highlight that the vulture population is declining globally as well. The species is included in the IUCN Red List and has been designated as 'Near Threatened' since 2014.

According to the data from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, factors affecting the population of vultures include the use of pesticides in agricultural and forestry practices, illegal poaching, trapping, and a reduction in food resources. The bearded vulture typically nests in rocky areas of high mountains, preferring deep rocky gorges, generally at elevations of 800-2000 meters above sea level. They breed from early January to mid-February.

The Caucasus Biodiversity Reserve is a privately protected zone where hunting is prohibited, as well as any illegal actions against nature. The area is always under the direct attention and surveillance of forest rangers and cameras. This is the reason why various rare species, such as the bearded vulture, can be found within the CWR territory. The reserve is managed by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC).
