Artsakh Ombudsman Receives French Parliamentary Delegation

The Ombudsman of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, met with a delegation of French parliamentarians on December 7, who visited Artsakh accompanied by Nadia Gorzunyan, the president of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) of France and Europe.

Beglaryan welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude for the support extended by France to the people of Artsakh during and after the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression. He highlighted that the friendship between Artsakh and France is based on universal values, with the respect and protection of human rights and freedoms being the most important.

Artak Beglaryan presented the findings of the Artsakh Ombudsman’s fact-finding mission regarding war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces and emphasized his expectation for the support of French colleagues in properly documenting these crimes and holding the perpetrators accountable. The Ombudsman stressed that it is the responsibility of the international community to prevent further crimes, including through an intolerance approach regarding the crimes that have already occurred.

The French parliamentarians reaffirmed their commitment to continue making every effort to protect the rights of the people of Artsakh, as well as to pursue the condemnation and accountability for Azerbaijani-Turkish crimes.

Accompanied by the Ombudsman, the guests visited several residential buildings and civil infrastructure affected by Azerbaijani aggression in the capital, Stepanakert, and examined the material damage incurred.
