Protests occurred across French cities throughout the day yesterday against Article 24 of the "Global Security" law, which was adopted by the National Assembly this week.

Article 24 stipulates penalties for the dissemination of a police officer's or gendarme's face image or any other identifying feature with the intent to inflict physical or psychological harm. Violating this provision could lead to one year of imprisonment and a fine of €45,000.

In the latter half of the day, a peaceful march in Paris quickly turned into riots. About fifty protesters were arrested during clashes with law enforcement. Representatives of law enforcement agencies were injured during clashes across various parts of the country. The Paris police used tear gas during the protest against police violence after masked protesters barricaded themselves and began throwing explosive fireworks and stones at law enforcement officers, according to Reuters.

The number of participants in mass protests in France reached 130,000.
