Lukashenko Announces Tihanovskaya's Conversations Were Wiretapped

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has announced that special services have wiretapped conversations of opposition members who have left the country, in which their leader, Sviatlana Tihanovskaya, allegedly stated that she makes no decisions. This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency, citing one of the Telegram channels close to the Belarusian presidency.

The country's leader expressed surprise at the opposition figure's statement. According to Lukashenko, Tihanovskaya is being "kept" in Lithuania because Western powers need such a person.

The president referred to Tihanovskaya as "our president in Lithuania," hinting at her presidential aspirations and her escape from the country. It is worth recalling that Sviatlana Tihanovskaya officially lost the Belarusian presidential elections, gaining just over 10% of the votes. Alexander Lukashenko won the elections.

The former candidate has not recognized the election results and fled the country. In the months following the elections, she has met with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová, as well as foreign ministers from Bulgaria, Austria, Greece, and other EU countries.
