I Propose to Create a Commission to Address the Issues of Prisoners of War: Edmon Marukyan
Following my request sent to the President of Russia regarding the issue of Armenian prisoners of war, a new proposal emerged today in a discussion with human rights defender Artak Zeynalayan. Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the 'Enlightened Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, had previously addressed a letter to the President of Russia, asking for intervention in the prisoners' situation and has now made a Facebook post discussing the need to establish a tripartite commission.
The post states: 'Given the truly critical situation that has arisen, we propose to create a tripartite commission consisting of representatives from Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. This commission would have unrestricted access to prisoners of war held on both sides, prevent possible mistreatment of these prisoners, verify their total number, ascertain their actual locations, and check the conditions in which they are held. The commission should be established as quickly as possible to support the prisoners and facilitate their immediate return to their families.'
