Senate Calls on French Authorities to Ensure Restoration of 1994 Established Borders: Artsakh Foreign Ministry
Artsakh's Foreign Minister Masis Mayilyan wrote on his Facebook page: We welcome the resolution adopted today, November 25, by the Upper House of the French Parliament, the Senate, regarding the necessity of recognizing the Republic of Artsakh.
We express deep gratitude to the senators and all individuals and organizations whose efforts made it possible for this historic decision to be adopted. Notably, among other important points, the resolution condemns the Azerbaijani-Turkish military aggression unleashed against Artsakh on September 27, with the involvement of mercenary terrorists, and calls on the French authorities to take all possible measures to restore the borders established in 1994, which are essentially stipulated by the trilateral indefinite ceasefire agreement signed by the Republic of Artsakh, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.
We emphasize the bold stance of the French Senate in calling on the government to "recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and make this recognition a subject of negotiations aimed at establishing lasting peace." We hope that this Senate decision will inspire the adoption of similar resolutions of the same nature and strength, first in the National Assembly of France and in other countries around the world.
We reiterate that, following the armed aggression against Artsakh, the significant military occupation of its territories, and Azerbaijan's public refusal to discuss the status issue, any circumstances that obstruct the recognition of the Republic of Artsakh's independence by other states are eliminated, which was largely conditioned by the fear of hindering the peaceful resolution of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict.
We are convinced that the international recognition process of the Republic of Artsakh also aligns with the medium-term and long-term interests of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, including the Russian Federation. The international recognition of the independence of the Republic of Artsakh stems from the principles of justice and the equality of peoples and will significantly contribute to ensuring more robust security, stability, and predictability in the South Caucasus.
