Bouyan Calls on France Not to Remain Neutral on Nagorno-Karabakh Issue and Recognize Artsakh's Independence

French National Assembly member Valérie Bouyan called on the Senate not to remain neutral on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and to recognize the independence of Artsakh. According to Armenpress, Bouyan made this statement during the discussion of a draft resolution on the 'Need to Recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh'.

"I did not think we would speak again in this chamber about ethnic cleansing. I regret that, but our silence has been the reason for this. Nothing was done for Armenia, nothing was done when thousands of Armenians were displaced. Our state has remained neutral, saying that the co-chair of the Minsk Group should be neutral. We cannot remain neutral when jihadists are operating. To remain neutral means to leave our brothers, sisters, Armenians alone against this aggression," stated Bouyan.

The deputy noted that only the recognition of Artsakh's independence can guarantee the safety of the people living there. "We must recognize Karabakh. A small country that has great cultural and religious value. Independence is the only guarantee of security for the people living there, it is the only guarantee of peace. France must be the first country to recognize that independence," the deputy emphasized.

The discussion of the draft resolution on the 'Need to Recognize the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh' is taking place in the Senate of the French Republic. The resolution was presented by senators Bruno Retailleau, Patrick Mancen, Hervé Marseille, Alian Agassi, and Guillaume Gontard.
