Unlaunched Missiles 4: What Targets Did the Iskanders Have? Razm.info
Razm.info reports: "Today, a powerful modern strike force is directed at all directions of our warlike neighbor's territory, up to the most important infrastructures. And today, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Armenia will not hesitate to issue a command for a volley of Iskanders if necessary. This is well-known in the neighboring country." - Serzh Sargsyan, March 25, 2017.
Razm.info will sequentially present the strategically significant infrastructures in Azerbaijan that the Iskander missiles never targeted.
Target #1: Sangachal Terminal
Target #2: Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, General Staff
Target #3: Infrastructure of Evlaq
Target #4: Ganja Military Airport
On October 4, 2020, the spokesperson of the President of Artsakh, Vahram Poghosyan, announced that “the Ganja military airport vanished into thin air.” From the videos that emerged online during that and the following days, it was possible to infer that the strikes were carried out with Scud missiles. It also became evident that the airport did not sustain significant damage.
Razm.info will further address the questions arising from the use of Scud missiles; for now, let’s talk about Ganja International Airport.
The airport is situated in the northwestern part of the city. Originally, during the Soviet era, it had dual purposes. For a considerable time, it was used exclusively for civilian purposes in Azerbaijan, but recently it has started to be utilized for both civilian and military purposes. Notably, from the beginning of the Turkish-Azerbaijani military exercises, Turkish F-16 fighters were stationed precisely here. Following the missile strikes from Artsakh, these fighters were relocated to another airport.
If the Scud missiles had struck their target, although the airport wouldn’t have vanished into thin air, the destruction of the F-16s would have greatly alleviated our air defense problems. It should be noted that these F-16s were from the Turkish 151st and 152nd squadrons, specialized in suppressing air defense.
However, the issue is that the factory probability deviation of Scud missiles is 450 meters. Under these conditions, it is impossible to expect guaranteed strikes on the airport from several missiles. In contrast, the probability deviation for Iskanders does not exceed several dozen meters, and in some cases, even a few meters.
