Over 100,000 Children in Elementary Schools to Receive Food Packages

The Government of Armenia and the UN World Food Programme will provide food packages to approximately 100,000 children in elementary schools. This initiative is a response to the ongoing closure of school kitchens and cafeterias due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In collaboration with the Armenian government, the World Food Programme has reorganized the 'School Feeding' program to ensure that children can receive nutritious meals at home until the reopening of school kitchens and canteens.

The program will deliver healthy food packages to around 50,000 elementary school students across Armenia, within the framework of the 'School Feeding' initiative, which is funded by the Russian Federation. As part of the gradual nationalization of the program, the Armenian government will simultaneously support an additional 50,000 schoolchildren.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, along with the World Food Programme, will distribute the food packages to students during the first semester of the 2020/21 academic year. This one-time distribution aims to aid families in meeting their children's nutritional needs over a period of 80 days.

The food packages provided by the Armenian government and the World Food Programme will include items such as buckwheat, lentils, pasta, rice, oil, and wheat flour.
