Shoigu Discusses Nagorno-Karabakh Situation with Azerbaijani President and Defense Minister
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu met in Baku with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov. This was reported by RIA Novosti. The parties discussed the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Shoigu expressed gratitude for the meeting and for finding time to discuss urgent and relevant issues. He noted that not much time has passed since the historic announcement, yet peacekeeping forces are already positioned, and the return of refugees has begun. According to Shoigu, this work is yielding results.
“During this time, the ceasefire regime has been maintained and I am confident that it will continue to be so in the future,” he stated. The President of Azerbaijan remarked that the trilateral agreement is being successfully implemented, which “once again demonstrates the willingness of both the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides to end the long-standing conflict and move towards a political settlement.”
