Sergey Lavrov Hopes UNESCO Will Actively Participate in Preserving Monuments in Artsakh

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed hope that UNESCO will take an active role in the preservation of monuments in Artsakh, according to the RIA Novosti news agency.

The source details that Lavrov spoke with the head of UNESCO the day before, emphasizing that "it is necessary for the organization to act more proactively in accordance with existing conventions regarding the preservation of cultural, civic, and religious heritage in and around Artsakh, which would be a significant contribution to interfaith, interethnic reconciliation and harmony in this ancient region."

“We hope that UNESCO will be more active here than it was in Syria, primarily in Aleppo and Palmyra, in response to the numerous requests received regarding the preservation of cultural monuments; to put it simply, our friends at UNESCO have not been very active,” the minister noted.
