Putin Calls on UN and WHO to Follow Red Cross Example in Nagorno-Karabakh
Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged international organizations such as the UN, the World Health Organization, and the World Food Programme to follow the example of the Red Cross in their work in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The issue of mobilization and international assistance is acquiring special significance. A basis for such work has been created thanks to our peacekeepers. I know that in many countries, people are concerned about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and empathize with those who find themselves in a very difficult situation there. However, secure conditions have now been created for humanitarian organization staff. Moreover, the field for joint efforts in this regard is the broadest," said Putin during a meeting on the Russian peacekeeping mission in the region.
According to him, the leading role belongs to the International Committee of the Red Cross, whose president confirmed the organization’s readiness to increase its activities both in Yerevan and Baku.
"I consider it important for representatives of other international structures, such as the UN Refugee Agency, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, and the UN Mine Action Service, to follow this example," stated the Russian president.
