Information Provocations Should Not Be Aired: Chairman of the RA Public Television and Radio Commission

The Chairman of the Public Television and Radio Commission, Tigran Hakobyan, wrote on his Facebook page: “If the leaders or actual or shadow owners of certain television companies operating in the public multiplex believe that the Constitution and laws in Armenia cease to function in this extremely unstable situation, they are gravely mistaken.

Four days ago, the Commission addressed all broadcasters with a call not to escalate the situation. I am compelled to repeat: calls for retribution, the propaganda accompanying actions aimed at violently overthrowing constitutional order, and information provocations should not be on the air.

Cover the protests, criticize with all severity, but do not create mayhem on the air. The Commission is recording all violations and opening administrative proceedings.

If a change of power has matured in Armenia, it must be smooth and legal. The fate of our state and our children is on the table. Airborne hooliganism must be excluded in this and any other crisis situation, regardless of who is in power. Otherwise, we will turn defeat in war into defeat of the state.
