Armenian National Football Team Defeats North Macedonia, Secures First Place in Group
The Armenian national football team secured a historic victory against North Macedonia in the final match of the second subgroup of the UEFA Nations League C division, clinching the top spot for the first time ever.
In the initial minutes of the match, both teams exchanged attacks. Towards the end of the first half, North Macedonia held a statistical advantage, maintaining possession of the ball at a rate of 66-34 percent. Despite the efforts on both sides, no goals were scored during the first 45 minutes.
In the 54th minute of the second half, after receiving a precise pass from Vahan Bichakhchyan, Hovhannes Hambardzumyan found the net, sending the ball into North Macedonia's goal.
During this UEFA Nations League campaign, all 8 goals for the Armenian team have been scored by 8 different players. Following the conceded goal, North Macedonia pressed forward with increased vigor.
Armenian defender Kamo Hovhannisyan had a great opportunity to double the lead, but the chance went astray. Ultimately, the Armenian national team won with a narrow score, finishing first in their subgroup.
With this victory, the Armenian national team has become the group stage winner for the first time in history. Led by Joaquín Caparrós, the team will advance to compete in the B division of the Nations League.
