Ceasefire in Artsakh Opens New Opportunities for ICRC Work, Lavrov Says

Moscow is interested in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) regarding the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“Now we have gained an additional area of cooperation. I mean Nagorno-Karabakh. A week ago, a trilateral statement was signed by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the Russian Federation. There, the Russian peacekeeping contingent is deployed. And we know how actively and long the ICRC has been working in that region. We are interested in strengthening our cooperation, which is already actively developing,” Lavrov said during a meeting with ICRC President Peter Maurer in Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Minister reminded that Russia and the ICRC have traditionally collaborated closely in several regions. “Our communications are regular, and there is still much to work on together, as, unfortunately, the number of humanitarian crises and conflicts in the world is not decreasing,” the minister added.
