VIDEO: Another Case of State Treason Disclosed by NSS

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has revealed another case of state treason as part of its ongoing efforts to uncover, prevent, and thwart intelligence activities conducted against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and external security of the Republic of Armenia by foreign special services.

Specifically, the National Security Service obtained sufficient information indicating that a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, M.S., while working abroad in Istanbul, Turkey in 2015, came under the radar of Azerbaijani intelligence services operating in that country. After returning to Armenia in 2019, he was offered monetary compensation for acquiring or transferring information regarding the external security, armed forces, military equipment, and weapons of both the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh, including details about military personnel, types and amounts of weaponry and ammunition, military bases and their command structures, defensive positions, engineering structures, equipment, and recently, also regarding human losses, among others.

By accepting this offer, M.S. engaged in espionage and carried out the assigned tasks, receiving various sums of money in return, thereby assisting foreign special services in conducting hostile activities against the territorial integrity and external security of the Republic of Armenia.

Moreover, to execute specific assignments, M.S. attempted to overcome restrictions that hindered his military service by undergoing double medical examinations, initiating measures to enlist in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia to gather information again and transfer it to another state for hostile activities; however, his application for employment was rejected by the relevant authorities.

A criminal case has been opened at the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia based on the features of the crime prescribed in the first part of Article 299 of the RA Criminal Code, on the basis of direct suspicion of committing state treason. M.S. has been arrested and has provided confessionary testimonies during the process.

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia continues its committed fight against crimes directed toward the foundational principles of constitutional order and state security. At the same time, the NSS anticipates broad public involvement in this process, encouraging citizens to report any information they have regarding state treason or espionage that could aid in the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia.
