Military Doctor Sasha Rustamyan Killed by Enemy Fire, Ambulance Rolls into Gorge

Military doctor Sasha Rustamyan has been killed by an enemy bullet, while an ambulance caught in crossfire has rolled into a gorge. This was reported by Armen Muradyan, the rector of Yerevan State Medical University.

“Military doctors have been at the front since the first day of war, serving under a double oath—military and Hippocratic. Acquiring the medical profession while wearing military uniform, Sasha Rustamyan is among those devoted individuals who fell while fulfilling their professional duty. The Azerbaijan-Turkey forces, in collusion with mercenary terrorists, continue to violate all humanitarian norms, targeting peaceful civilians, historical and cultural sites, hospitals, military hospitals, ambulances transporting the injured, and the doctors providing assistance,” said Muradyan.

The medical team, on its way to transport an injured soldier, stopped upon encountering a group in military uniform to offer help. Sasha Rustamyan was the first to exit the ambulance and was caught in a hail of fire from an Azerbaijani-Turkish-terrorist sabotage group. Rush to assist, the physician was killed by an enemy bullet, while the ambulance, under enemy fire, rolled into a gorge. However, Sasha Rustamyan's mission did not go unfinished; despite sustaining multiple injuries, he was able to save the lives of the injured soldier and the ambulance driver.

Vardan Tsaturyan, head of the military medicine faculty at YSMU, spoke about Sasha Rustamyan, noting that he excelled in both combat readiness and physical preparation, consistently participating in sports events. “He was a well-trained officer and a doctor faithful to his oath,” emphasized the faculty head.

The military doctor, guided by military ideals and state thinking, has forged values that should propel the Armenian people towards a developed, peaceful, and victorious Armenia. While fulfilling his professional duties, the doctor-soldier rushing to aid will be remembered as an immortal hero in the history of the Armenian people,” wrote Rector Armen Muradyan.
