Azerbaijan Uses White Phosphorus Munitions with Chemical Weapon Elements, Says Tatoyan

Azerbaijan is using munitions that contain white phosphorus, which possess elements of chemical weapons. This is occurring near civilian residential areas and forests. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on his Facebook page.

According to the urgent findings of the Human Rights Defender’s Office in Armenia and the fact-finding efforts of the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, this fact has not only been confirmed, but it is also revealed that both during the day and night, civilians are taking refuge in the forests from armed attacks. This means that this type of weapon, characterized as a weapon of mass destruction, is currently being used by the Azerbaijani armed forces against the environment and against civilian residents. Its use in such circumstances is clearly under the ban of international law,” he wrote.

Earlier, the topic was also addressed by the representative of the Ministry of Defense, Artsrun Hovhannisyan, who stated that they are still studying the use of phosphorus shells and munitions.
