Entry to Talysh-Inhabited Regions in Azerbaijan Closed

Starting today, entry to the regions of Lenkoran city, Jalilabad, and Masally in Azerbaijan, where the majority of the population are Talysh, is prohibited. This was reported by Infoteka24.

"Exceptions are made only for special vehicles such as ambulances, fire service vehicles, and cargo trucks," the official statement said.

The announcement comes in light of an increase in the number of coronavirus infections, while it was previously reported that local residents were outraged by the forceful mobilization methods in those regions. Numerous attempts by Talysh people to refuse conscription have been brutally suppressed.

Azerbaijan's national minorities are experiencing ethnic discrimination and what some describe as genocide under the pretext of mobilization, against the backdrop of military operations taking place in Artsakh.

There are many reports of Talysh, Lezgins, and representatives of other national minorities being sent to the most dangerous frontlines, turning them into "cannon fodder."
