Austria Bans Export of Parts Used for Turkish Bayraktar Drones

Austria has banned the export of parts used for Turkish Bayraktar drones. This was reported by international news outlets.

A Quebec-based company, best known for its Ski-Doo and Lynx snowmobiles, revealed last week that engines from its Austrian subsidiary, Rotax, are being used in Turkish Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles.

“We recently learned that some Rotax engines are currently being used in military drones, and we have immediately initiated a thorough investigation. At the same time, we are halting the delivery of aircraft engines to countries with unclear usage,” said Martin Langelier, Senior Vice President and spokesperson for BPR.

Langelier noted that all Rotax aircraft engines are designed and produced in Austria exclusively for civilian purposes and are certified solely for civilian use.
