U.S. Urges Azerbaijani Authorities to Accept Ceasefire Regime: O'Brien
The U.S. is pressuring Azerbaijan to maintain a ceasefire from all sides, while President Ilham Aliyev is setting conditions for not killing civilians. In a context of rejecting the ceasefire, Russia has provided Azerbaijan with data on Syrian mercenaries fighting against Nagorno-Karabakh and pointed out that if Aliyev is unaware of their presence, it means they have begun playing against him.
U.S. National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien stated to CBS that the U.S. is urging Azerbaijani authorities to accept a ceasefire regime. O’Brien highlighted, “We spent the entire weekend trying to negotiate peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Armenia has accepted the proposal for a ceasefire, but Azerbaijan has not yet.”
The senior U.S. official also has something to say to Turkish President Erdoğan. As if complicated relations with the West were not enough, Erdoğan has now insulted French President Macron, suggesting he should undergo mental examination. Today in Malatya, Erdoğan once again accused the French president of having mental issues and told the U.S. that he does not understand whom he is dealing with.
French parliament member Valérie Boyer has called for Turkey's removal from NATO. Valérie Boyer, a representative from France, stated, “Erdoğan has insulted the French president again. I call for new strong measures, including recalling our ambassador, expelling Turkey from NATO, ending all negotiations for EU membership, and imposing economic sanctions.”
Erdoğan’s conduct has drawn harsh criticism from the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
