Video: Meeting Between Armen Sarkissian and Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace
A meeting took place at the Élysée Palace between the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, and the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
During the conversation, the presidents of Armenia and France discussed the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. President Sarkissian expressed gratitude to Macron, noting that Armenia highly appreciates the efforts and stance of France, as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, and personally of President Macron in resolving the conflict.
The Armenian president expressed deep concern regarding Turkey's military-political support to Azerbaijan, emphasizing that such a level of involvement by Turkey as a third party exacerbates the situation and threatens stability and security in the region.
President Sarkissian pointed out that the Islamist terrorists brought from Turkey to Azerbaijan, who then participated in military operations against Artsakh as part of the Azerbaijani army, pose a particular threat to the region. It is also likely that these terrorists might eventually appear in other countries, including in Europe.
President Macron also expressed concern regarding the ongoing military operations and the current situation. Both parties agreed that there is no alternative to a peaceful resolution of the conflict and stressed the importance of implementing the agreements reached regarding the establishment of a ceasefire.
The presidents underscored the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the resolution of the conflict and highlighted the necessity of returning to the negotiation table as soon as possible under the co-chairmanship of the Minsk Group.
It is noteworthy that Armen Sarkissian traveled to Paris from Brussels, where he had met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, and President of the European Council Charles Michel.
