Turkey Hangs Azerbaijani Flags in Cities of Western Armenia
Large Turkish and Azerbaijani flags have been hung on the historical walls of the city of Diyarbakır. The purpose is to intimidate the local Armenian population and to send a message to the entire Armenian community. This was reported by Akunq.net.
The flags were displayed today, with the knowledge and permission of the local authorities. As is known, Diyarbakır currently does not have an official mayor. The functions are being carried out by trustees since this March, when Kurdish mayor Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, a member of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), was arrested on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization.”
One of the objectives of this action is to send a message to the Armenian community, as local authorities are well aware of the Armenian identity of Diyarbakır and its surrounding areas.
