Two Women and One Man Killed in Martakert Shelling, Artsakh's Ombudsman Reports
On September 30, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Artsakh reported that on the same day, three civilians were killed due to the shelling of civilian objects in the city of Martakert by Azerbaijani armed forces—two women and one man—while another individual was injured. The identities of the deceased and the injured are being verified. This was announced by Artsakh's Ombudsman.
Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, the Human Rights Defender strongly condemns the targeted and continuous assaults by Azerbaijan on the civilian population and objects in Artsakh, which result in severe human and material losses among civilians.
The Defender notes that Azerbaijan is grossly violating the norms of international humanitarian law by indiscriminately and deliberately firing at civilian settlements. The Human Rights Defender calls on the international community and human rights organizations to adequately assess the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces and to employ all their tools to prevent widespread and brutal violations of the rights of the population of the Republic of Artsakh.
