Establishing peace in the region is our common interest: Gakharia proposes a meeting in Tbilisi for Armenian and Azerbaijani sides

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia has announced that Georgia is ready to support the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in every possible way, including organizing a meeting between the conflicting parties in Tbilisi for dialogue. This was reported by netgazeti.ge.

“Establishing peace in the region as soon as possible is our common interest. Everyone understands that further escalation of the situation will have a very negative impact on the security of the entire region,” Gakharia stated.

At the same time, the Georgian Prime Minister urged the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and international participants to make the most of their opportunities to prevent the escalation of the conflict and to resume dialogue.

“As you are aware, our country has friendly relations with both Armenia and Azerbaijan. Historically, both Armenian and Azerbaijani citizens have played a vital role in the development and consolidation of our country and the region as a whole. At the same time, their peaceful coexistence is a good example that Georgians, Armenians, and Azerbaijanis can turn the entire South Caucasus into a peaceful and developing area,” said Gakharia.

It is worth recalling that on September 27, Azerbaijani forces launched a large-scale attack in Artsakh, targeting even the civilian population. Artsakh's armed forces shot down 7 enemy helicopters, 72 drones, and 137 units of armored vehicles, mostly tanks, as well as one aircraft, 82 units of automotive transport, and 4 armored personnel carriers. The enemy has more than 790 casualties, of which 180 are in the direction of Karvachar, with more than 1900 injured. On the Armenian side, preliminary data records 80 fatalities and about 200 injured, of whom around 120 continue to receive treatment, while others have recovered and returned to duty.

Azerbaijani Armed Forces have also targeted Artsakh and Armenia's military and civilian infrastructure, resulting in the deaths of 1 civilian in the Vardenis area, 3 in Martakert, and 2 in Martuni city (a grandmother and granddaughter).

Martial law was declared in Armenia and Artsakh on September 27.
