Civilian Killed in Vardenis Due to Adversary Strikes, Says Armenian Foreign Ministry

The Armenian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement regarding the attempts of aggression by Azerbaijan towards the Republic of Armenia.

“This morning, the Armenian Foreign Ministry released a statement indicating that Azerbaijan is spreading disinformation to prepare the ground for military operations in the Vardenis region of the Republic of Armenia. Just moments later, the Azerbaijani armed forces struck military and civilian infrastructure in the Vardenis region, including targeting the civilian population, resulting in the death of one civilian.

Despite the ongoing calls from the international community for the cessation of hostilities, Azerbaijan, with active encouragement and military-political support from Turkey, continues to expand the area of military operations, now including the territory of the Republic of Armenia. The persistent attempts by Azerbaijan to jeopardize regional security and peace will receive an adequate military-political response from the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh,” reads the statement.

It is notable that the villages in the Vardenis region of Armenia are currently being shelled. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Artur Hovhannisyan.

Earlier, Hovhannisyan noted on his Facebook page that a civilian bus was set on fire by the strike of an unmanned aerial vehicle in Vardenis. Furthermore, it was mentioned that Azerbaijani armed forces had fired upon an Armenian military unit in Vardenis and also employed air forces against the positions.

The adversary's actions were preceded by disinformation from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, claiming that the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia had shelled the Dashkesan region of Azerbaijan from Vardenis. Thus, the adversary has tried to create a pretext to justify its subsequent actions.

It is also worth recalling that on September 27, Azerbaijani armed forces launched a large-scale attack in Artsakh, targeting the civilian population as well.
