Medvedev Urges to Halt Military Operations in Nagorno-Karabakh to Avoid Regional Disaster
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has called on the parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to jointly halt military operations, warning that otherwise, it will be impossible to avoid disastrous consequences for the region.
“A new phase of tension in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone has once again led to human casualties and bloodshed. The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be resolved by force. The resolution should be carried out exclusively through political and diplomatic means,” Medvedev wrote on Facebook.
He added, “Currently, all sides need to calm down. First and foremost, the stirring up of passions must cease, combat rhetoric should be abandoned, and the military component of the conflict should be jointly halted. Otherwise, it will be impossible to avoid disastrous consequences for the region.”
“Today, we must utilize all possible opportunities to overcome the crisis and find solutions. This includes the co-chairmanship mechanism within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as a bilateral format, given that Armenia and Azerbaijan are our neighbors and close partners,” emphasized the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia.
