Karo Paylan Needs Support from the Diaspora

The prosecutor's office in Turkey has begun the process of lifting the parliamentary immunity of Karo Paylan, an Armenian member of parliament from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party, following an order from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This was confirmed by the MP in an interview with Tert.am.

“Actions have started against our party at the order of the President of Turkey. Unfortunately, some of my friends are already imprisoned, and now they want to convict seven MPs, which is why they are lifting immunity,” he stated.

The Chief Prosecutor of Ankara announced on September 25 that the process to revoke the parliamentary immunity of seven MPs from the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party has begun, all of whom were members of the party's executive council during the events in Kobani. Among those listed are Karo Paylan, Saruhan Oluc, Meral Danış Beştaş, Huda Kaya, Sezai Temelli, and Serpil Kemalbay.

Paylan expressed that the Turkish parliament will start its work next week, during which the issue of lifting his immunity will be discussed. “Sadly, the parliament is under Erdoğan's control, and if he has ordered this, then we will lose our immunity,” he said.

The Armenian MP noted that many people are fighting against Erdoğan in Turkey, and they all need international tolerance.
