Large Sum of Money Embezzled by NSS Employee Revealed

The National Security Service (NSS) of the Republic of Armenia has revealed evidence of embezzlement involving a senior non-commissioned officer, identified as A.T., who exploited his position within the NSS. He deceived six citizens by assuring them that he could facilitate their theoretical and practical examinations without obstacles in the Road Police’s examination sub-departments, thereby assisting them in obtaining driver's licenses.

Furthermore, he was aware that one of these individuals had been deprived of the right to drive for one year due to driving under the influence and exceeding speed limits, a decision made by the Road Police. He claimed he could annul this decision within two months. However, lacking any genuine intent, he fraudulently embezzled a substantial amount of money—1,295,000 Armenian drams—from these citizens in March 2020, under the pretext of soliciting a bribe. Consequently, these individuals were unable to fulfill the act of bribing the relevant officials.

A criminal case has been initiated at the NSS investigative department based on the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Necessary investigative and procedural actions are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case and to identify the full scope of the victims involved.

The National Security Service urges all citizens who have suffered from similar actions by junior officials within the national security agencies to report them to law enforcement authorities.
