Father and Son Charged with Violence Against Police Officers
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed all circumstances surrounding a case of violence against police officers in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district of Yerevan, following extensive investigative and procedural actions.
According to the data obtained during the investigation, on April 27, 2020, at 3:30 PM, a group of police officers received a call from Kanaker 6th Street in Yerevan. Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered a 25-year-old man driving an 'Opel' vehicle. Displaying disrespectful behavior and using inappropriate language towards the police, he continued on his way.
Believing that his behavior was related to the received call, the police officers followed him. Upon stopping the citizen's vehicle, one officer approached him, identified himself, and requested clarification regarding his conduct. In response, the young man shouted sexual insults.
At that moment, the 25-year-old man's father approached the police, pushed one of the officers while insulting him, and then picked up a stone from the ground, threatening the police officers with violence. Seeing that the father and son were obstructing the fulfillment of their duties, the officers demanded that they accompany them to the police station. Instead of complying with the lawful actions of the police, the two continued their aggressive behavior and shouted sexual insults, after which the son attempted to flee, while his father intentionally struck one of the officers in the chest.
Based on the sufficient evidence gathered, both the 25-year-old citizen and his father have been charged under Part 1 of Article 316 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (violence against a representative of authority). A signature not to leave was applied as a measure of restraint for them. The pre-investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
