Educational Process is Suspended at HSE

The committee formed by the collective of the Armenian State University of Economics has issued a statement noting that on July 17 of this year, Diana Galoyan was elected as the rector with a two-thirds majority of the votes of the council members of the university. According to point 4 of article 15 of the RA Law on Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education, the Government of the Republic of Armenia is to approve the results of the rector's election, which has not been realized even two months after the election.

On August 28 of this year, the Scientific Council of HSE appealed to both the Prime Minister of Armenia and the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, requesting clarification regarding why the legally elected rector has not yet been appointed to the position. Yesterday, university staff and students staged a march towards the Government of Armenia to seek clarification on this issue; however, HSE has yet to receive any response.

We inform you that by the decision of the overwhelming majority of the HSE collective, the educational process is temporarily suspended until the appointment of D. Galoyan as rector in accordance with the law. We are fully aware of our responsibility towards students and other stakeholders and request their understanding, stating that this forced step is also in the interest of students, as the quality of education implies stability in the long term. At the same time, we invite the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and representatives of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to the university to familiarize themselves with the position of the HSE collective.
