Davutoğlu to Run as Candidate in 2023 Presidential Elections
The former Prime Minister of Turkey and founder of the newly established "Future" (GP-AC) party, Ahmet Davutoğlu, has announced that his party will participate in the 2023 presidential elections with its own candidate. This was reported by Ermenihaber.
"We did not establish a party to make someone president," said Davutoğlu, noting that they may collaborate with other forces on certain issues. "The Future party will have its presidential candidate. Our main goal is to independently pursue the path to power," emphasized the former ally of Erdoğan.
It is worth recalling that Davutoğlu served as the chief advisor to the then-Prime Minister (currently the President) Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from 2003 to 2009, and was the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2014. He held the positions of Prime Minister and chairman of the ruling "Justice and Development" (AKP) party, which he co-founded with Erdoğan, from 2014 to 2016. Davutoğlu resigned from the premiership on May 22, 2016.
