Vietnamese Architect Wins Competition to Revitalize Firduz Neighborhood

The First Prize in the competition for alternative proposals to revitalize the urban environment of Yerevan's 33rd neighborhood (Firduz) has been awarded to the work of architect Nguyen Quy Phu from Vietnam. This was reported by the Yerevan Heritage Protection Committee.

“The project is the most successful in that it best integrates the existing urban structure and the remaining heritage within a new development scheme. The process is clearly delineated, whereby a dominant architectural/design style is not imposed on the many stakeholders included in the program, whether they be investors or designers. Instead, it offers a ‘foundation for cultural self-expression’ through which various directions of design can be realized. The authors have managed to maintain the internal scale of the existing urban environment without violating the competition's requirements for greater density. The reflection of a diversity of spaces, usage, and functional significance attests to the project's potential to quickly turn the idea into reality,” stated the jury’s announcement dated September 20, 2020.

All submitted projects will be exhibited online on altt33.info for at least six months starting in a few days.
