Moscow Opens Air Borders for EAEU Member States, Excluding Armenia
The restrictions for citizens of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states entering Russia by air are lifted, with the exception of citizens of Armenia. The Russian authorities have cancelled the entry restrictions to Russia for citizens of Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan on a reciprocal basis, which had been imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported by the press service of the Russian government.
Flights are scheduled to operate once a week. As of September 21, air communication with Kazakhstan (Nur-Sultan), Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek), and Belarus (Minsk) has resumed.
The Eurasian Economic Union consists of five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia. While in Armenia, groups of citizens have been protesting for months demanding to be allowed to travel to Russia, Moscow is now opening its air borders to EAEU member states, excluding Armenia. The reason for this approach has not been officially clarified.
