Children and Young People with Diabetes Provided with Insulin Analogs

To enhance the quality of life and improve the health status and treatment effectiveness for children and young people under the age of 22 who are insulin-dependent, a contract was signed between the Ministry of Health of Armenia and the American pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly within the framework of the program "Together We Overcome Diabetes" during the years 2015-2019, under which insulin analogs are provided free of charge to this demographic.

The Ministry of Health of Armenia reported, "To alleviate the concerns of parents of children and young individuals with diabetes, we inform you that as of July 1, the remaining quantity of Humalog medicine reported by the Muratsan University Hospital Complex amounted to 650 vials. According to the request letter submitted by the organization on July 2, there was a need to provide 3000 vials of Humalog medicine to children with diabetes on a quarterly basis. On July 9, by the order of the Minister of Health, 2500 vials were provided, and on August 21, an additional 1000 vials were supplied. Considering the remaining quantities and the amount of medicine provided, the organization currently has a total of 4150 units available. This means that all children have been supplied with an adequate amount of insulin analogs.

The next delivery under the contract was carried out on September 18 and will also be provided to medical institutions. Moreover, the supplier imported the quantities of insulin analogs on September 12 as per the contract with the Ministry of Health, which are currently undergoing customs clearance.

Regarding the provision of pen-injectors and needles, these have been allocated as humanitarian aid within the program. It should be noted that the supply of these products is not a mandatory condition of the state contract for the years 2015-2020; the mandatory condition is only for the supply and acquisition of insulin analogs. Significantly, a requirement for the provision of pen-injectors and needles, as part of humanitarian assistance, has been included in the contract signed for the years 2021-2023 along with the insulin analogs.

Additionally, it is mentioned that the test strips purchased for the needs in 2020 meet the technical specifications defined by the competition.
