Are Yerevan State University Students' Scholarships Not Being Paid Since March? Alarm Raised
According to information from "First News", Yerevan State University has not been paying scholarships to students studying on a fee-waiver basis since March. Students from the university's Faculty of Biology have reached out to the media, stating that they have only received scholarships for January and February this year.
The reason given is that students were informed by the dean's office that due to the coronavirus pandemic, since the classes were held remotely, scholarships would not be provided to the students.
It should be noted that it is not only the biology students who have been deprived of scholarships, but all students studying on a fee-waiver basis at the university. It remains unclear why the university has decided not to pay students' scholarships. Currently, we can only speculate that the new administration of the university is attempting to save money and solve financial issues, albeit at the expense of students. This could lead to a serious wave of protests.
In a conversation with the media regarding this information, the spokesperson for Yerevan State University, Gevorg Emin-Terjan, stated that the information does not correspond to reality. "There is no such thing. I saw a post about this, I asked the university's accountant to clarify whether this is true or not, and he said no. It is possible that the academic council, which represents the students concerning scholarships, has not presented them, and others are receiving them. But the fact that students are not receiving scholarships at all is false," said Gevorg Emin-Terjan.
